SCHOLARSHIPS TO AREA HIGH SCHOOLS STUDENTS
Anderson, SC (January 6, 2024) -- The Rho Delta Lambda Education Foundation of the Rho Delta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. recognized four outstanding area high school seniors by presenting them with the C. T. Battle Scholarship on January 6, 2024. The awardees were:
Kanadee Allen: Ms. Allen is a senior at Westside High School, Anderson, SC. She plans to attend the University of South Carolina.
Micah Branton: Mr. Branton is a senior at Crescent High School, Starr SC. He plans to attend Arizona State University.
Mikhi Dacus: Mr. Dacus is a senior at Belton Honea Path High School, Belton SC. He plans to attend Clemson University.
Jaylen Telley: Mr. Telley is a senior at Westside High School, Anderson, SC. He plans to attend Clemson University.
According to Dr. Jerome A. Hudson, Scholarship Committee Member, “These students have set an excellent example for fellow students to follow and are deserving recipients of this scholarship. Helping young people continue their education is one of the challenges our community faces, and it’s a mission and national project of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. to help our youth Go to High School, Go to College. We are extraordinarily grateful for the support and contributions we received from members of the community. You are helping us make a difference.”
C. T. Battle Jr. Scholarship is named in honor of Dr. Charles Tecumseh Battle, Jr. Dr. Battle practiced medicine in Oconee County from 1954 to 1992. He was an active member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and the Rho Delta Lambda Chapter as well as the Oconee and Anderson County communities. He was designated a Palmetto Gentleman by Governor David Beasley who bestowed upon him the Order of the Palmetto, the highest honor accorded a private citizen of South Carolina. Dr. Battle died in 1998. Rho Delta Lambda established this annual scholarship to continue his memory and dedication to service to others.
